Situated in Martinique, an island and French overseas department in the Caribbean, Mont Pelée (meaning peeled mountain In French) is the most active volcano of the Lesser Antilles arc. It’s catastrophic 1902 eruption killed nearly 30,000 people and is considered the worst volcanic disaster of the 20th century.
